Gayle Blows over Kennington Oval on Day 2 of 20/20 World Cup

In the second match of the day Australia played the West Indies., in a match they were surely expected to win given the current form of the West Indies team. Having won the toss Ricky Ponting chose to have his side, Australia, bat first. They amassed a total of 169/7 in their 20 overs.

Although a gettable score the West Indies form of late must have left their fans wondering how they were going to manage to throw this one away. But that was not to be the way for this game. Chris Gayle's four off the first ball, showed that he meant business and with Andre Fletcher at the other end they put on a total of for the first wicket. When Fletcher was out for 53 he had faced 32 balls and hit six 4's and one 6.

Gayle had his own impressive innings, hitting Lee for 22 runs in the fifth over with three 6's and one 4. he hit six 4's and six 6's in his innings of 88. By the time he was out West Indies were 157 needing 13 runs to win.

The winning runs were eventually made by Ramnaresh Sarwan with a four off Johnson in the 16th over. West Indies won by 7 wickets (with 25 balls remaining). The final score: Australia 169/7 (in 20 0vers); West Indies 172/3 (in 15.5 overs)
